The purpose of this course is to enhance the knowledge and decision making skills of the Computed Tomography (CT) Radiologic Technologist in the performance of CT procedures.

The session begins with a discussion of those factors that impact the production of scatter radiation in CT. Included in the discussion are the primary CT imaging chain components that impact scatter production and their control. The discussion terminates with an appropriate increase/decrease discussion regarding impacting factors and the impact of scatter on patient dose.

Describing and defining Automatic Tube Current Modulation (ATCM) is the next topic building upon the field size aspect of the previous Scatter Production Factors discussion. Angular, Longitudinal, ECG Based, and Organ Based Tube Current Modulation are defined and described. The impact on patient dose and image quality related to the utilization of ATCM is discussed at length.

The final topic, Resolving Resolution, is used to further clarify the impact of the visibility of image details on CT images. Spatial Resolution, Contrast Resolution, and Temporal Resolution are defined and discussed at length. Factors that impact each type of resolution are discussed at length.
